This beer began its mission through Brewmaster John Roberts’ passion for Belgian ales that require patience for perfection. He honed his craft of Flanders Red Ale production that our founding brewery, Max Lager’s, through the iteration of our GABF award-winning Flanders-style Red, “Excommunication.” The original culture was then taken from the mothership barrel at Max Lager’s and injected into the foeder at Bold Monk to innoculate that vessel to make Virtue of Patience. Brewed in the tradition of spontaneously fermented Belgian ales with the use of modern equipment housed at Bold Monk, this beer commenced its sixteen-month journey in one of our foeders where it lay dormant for ten months on a proprietary house culture. Once it achieved desired results, it was transferred into second-use ASW Fiddler Bourbon barrels where it rested for another four months. Following the four-month dormancy, all barrels were blended back together into one tank, homogenized to specification, and bottle conditioned for the utmost user experience! The resulting combination of tart red fruit, burnt candy sugar, and complex wine-like tannins proves that patience is truly a virtue.
