We are thrilled to announce that our esteemed beer, The Virtue of Patience, has achieved prestigious recognition by winning Gold in the Fruited Wood- and Barrel-Aged Sour Beer Category at the 2024 World Beer Cup! This accolade highlights the dedication and craft of our Brewmaster, John Roberts, whose passion for Belgian ales led him to perfect the Flanders Red Ale at our founding brewery, Max Lager’s. The journey of Virtue of Patience began with our GABF award-winning Flanders-style Red, “Excommunication.” We then carried the original culture from the mothership barrel at Max Lager’s to inoculate the foeder at Bold Monk, setting the stage for something truly special.

Brewed in the grand tradition of spontaneously fermented Belgian ales and utilizing the modern facilities at Bold Monk, Virtue of Patience embarked on a sixteen-month maturation journey. This beer first rested for ten months in one of our foeders with a proprietary house culture, followed by a four-month sojourn in second-use ASW Fiddler Bourbon barrels. After achieving the desired characteristics, all barrels were blended into a single tank, homogenized to our exacting specifications, and bottle conditioned to ensure the highest quality.

The winning combination is a fruited version of the original recipe, balanced with Balaton cherries and Mission figs. The resulting flavor profile of red fruit, burnt candy sugar, and complex wine-like tannins is a testament to the fact that patience, indeed, is a virtue. We are proud of this recognition and thankful to everyone who has supported us on this journey. Come try The Virtue of Patience for yourself to the art of brewing and the patience required to create such a masterpiece!
